Thursday, January 14: Peacemakers who sow in peace

Read James 3:17-18

The New Testament letter of James challenges believers on several fronts. Where do trials come from? Are we saved by listening or by doing, by faith or by works? How should we treat the rich and the poor? Join with us as we read through this important, practical book.

Read James 3:17-18

But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere. Peacemakers who sow in peace reap a harvest of righteousness.

Reflect

In the verses just before these, James listed some of the actions that come from the wrong kind of wisdom. Now he shows us what wisdom that comes down from heaven will look like when put into practice. The final trait that James lists is that of peacemaking. What are some areas of your life where being a peacemaker can be important?

Respond

As you read again through this list of characteristics, notice how well they describe Jesus. Ask the Father to guide you into a more Jesus-like life today.
