Wednesday, May 8: Spent the night praying to God

Read Luke 6:12-16

One of those days Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated apostles: Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the Zealot, Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.

Reflect

Though the scripture doesn't specify that Jesus prayed that night about which twelve disciples to choose as apostles, it's not a big leap to imagine that this occupied at least part of his prayer. Do you have a decision that could use some prayer? Even if God doesn't provide an answer for you, he can give you more clarity to see the decision through his eyes.

Respond

Is your decision something you'd be comfortable sharing with a trusted friend or family member, or maybe a small circle of them? You might receive friendly support and wisdom as a bonus.
