Tuesday, May 14: Forgive, and you will be forgiven

Read Luke 6:37-38

"Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven. Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you."

Reflect

God has established a principle of sowing and reaping in the world. If we're critical and judgmental, we shouldn't be surprised to be the target of a harsh comment ourselves. We should get what we give, right? Not in the kingdom of God. At the heart of God's kingdom is mercy. Mercy doesn't count or subtract or take receipts. God extends mercy through the way of his Son. When we were still sinners, Christ died for us, and this should characterize our lives.

Respond

The challenge of Jesus is to live in a way that we make the first move toward forgiveness, be the first to reconcile. Think what this might mean for your life, and make a plan to set that meaning into action.
