Thursday, August 8: Those who are last who will be first

Read Luke 13:28-30

"There will be weeping there, and gnashing of teeth, when you see Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out. People will come from east and west and north and south, and will take their places at the feast in the kingdom of God. Indeed there are those who are last who will be first, and first who will be last."

Reflect

So many of the religious leaders who hassled Jesus assumed they were "in" with God because of their religious heritage. They assumed that, of course, they would be sitting in the finest seats during the final "feast in the kingdom of God." They assumed they were in and others were out. They assumed they would be first and others last. Why?

Respond

What if almost everything we think we know about who will be present at the final banquet in eternity isn't accurate? What then?
