Thursday, October 3: Have the same mindset as Christ Jesus

Read Philippians 2:5-8

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:

Who, being in very nature God,

did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;

rather, he made himself nothing

by taking the very nature of a servant,

being made in human likeness.

And being found in appearance as a man,

he humbled himself

by becoming obedient to death —

even death on a cross!

Reflect

It's so tempting to climb the ladder of worldly success and to pursue power, possessions, and privileges. We're drawn to want more, to believe we deserve it, and to take control of situations and people, thinking our opinions are more important than anyone else's.

Respond

Jesus chose a different opinion. Instead of climbing the ladder, he descended it. He became less, willingly. He became a humble servant and died a criminal's death for us. He gave up his rights out of love for God and love for others. We can approach life expecting to be served, or we can look for opportunities to serve others, willingly and humbly, as grateful followers of Jesus.
