Wednesday, October 9: Christ died for us

Read Romans 5:8-11

But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God's wrath through him! For if, while we were God's enemies, we were reconciled to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life! Not only is this so, but we also boast in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Reflect

While we were alienated from God because of our sin, Jesus died for us, his enemies, so that we might become God's children. It's tough for us to love our enemies. Is it hard for you to believe that God's love for you began before you repented of your sin and turned to Jesus in faith?

Respond

As you marvel at God's love for you, despite your sin, ask his help in loving those around you who may still be lost in their sin.
