Monday, May 18: My sheep listen to my voice

Read John 10:27-28

"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand."

Reflect

Jesus is using a metaphor — imagery about sheep and a shepherd — to describe what a relationship with him is like. Just like our beloved pets often know our voice and know what we sound like when we call their name, so we are to know and listen for Jesus' voice in our lives. Is your relationship with Jesus like this? Why or why not?

Respond

When is the last time you sensed Jesus prompting you, communicating with you, "speaking" to you? Do you yearn for this kind of daily, back-and-forth communication with Jesus? What might you be willing to do to get it? What might you be willing to give up to get it?
