Friday, May 22: I stand at the door and knock

Read Revelation 3:20

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

Reflect

Here's a classic verse we often take out of context! We cite this verse to non-Christians, when in truth, the context here is that the voice of God is speaking to the churches, to followers of Jesus. Do you suppose those first believers — like us — had ears that were often asleep? God is saying to all believers, "I am always knocking on the door of your life. If you hear me, and open the door, I will share life with you." What a promise!

Respond

How might God be knocking on the door of your life right now? What makes you want to let God in? And what makes you want to keep the door closed?
