Monday, March 15: They did not understand what he meant

Read Mark 9:30-32

The last days of Jesus' earthly life are filled with significant events and teachings. During these weeks leading up to Easter, we'll travel with Jesus toward Jerusalem and his crucifixion, marveling at his determination to finally fulfill his destiny as the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

Read Mark 9:30-32

They left that place and passed through Galilee. Jesus did not want anyone to know where they were, because he was teaching his disciples. He said to them, "The Son of Man is going to be delivered into the hands of men. They will kill him, and after three days he will rise." But they did not understand what he meant and were afraid to ask him about it.

Reflect

In the alone time that Jesus seeks with his disciples, what truth does he want to drive home to them? Why do you think it was so hard for the disciples to understand?

Respond

Because of their love for Jesus and their growing belief that he is the Messiah, the disciples don't want to face the fact that he will soon die. Are there any hard truths right now in your life that you need to face head-on? Ask God's help in being honest with yourself.
