Thursday, August 22: God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him

Read 1 Peter 1:17-21

Since you call on a Father who judges each person's work impartially, live out your time as foreigners here in reverent fear. For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect. He was chosen before the creation of the world, but was revealed in these last times for your sake. Through him you believe in God, who raised him from the dead and glorified him, and so your faith and hope are in God.

Reflect

It costs God something to redeem you. Not gold or silver, but something much more valuable: the precious blood of Jesus. Peter says this was God's plan even before the creation of the world. Our sin and need of salvation didn't catch God by surprise. He knew what it would cost him to create you and to make you his child. And he did it anyway.

Respond

If I had known it was going to be this tough (or painful, or expensive), I never would have done it. People often say things like this. But God's love for you was greater than any price he might have to pay. Let that amazing thought permeate your mind and heart today.
